I had the opportunity to test one of the newest TTArtisan lenses equipped with autofocus. This is the TTArtisan 35mm F1.8 lens for APS-C.

We are dealing with a cheap equivalent of the classic 50mm this time. After the compact 27 mm F2.8 model (equivalent to a 40 mm lens) and the full-frame AF 32 mm F2.8, it was time for a classic standard prime lens - TTArtisan 35mm F1.8 AF lens.

Cheap lens to start with

I took a look at the specifications of this lens in terms of the glass used. Basically, the lens contains 10 elements arranged in 8 groups, along with a 9-blade diaphragm. The system contains 2 HR elements and 1 low-dispersion lens, which should eliminate some of the aberrations.

And?

You should not expect the sharpness of professional lenses in this model. It's fine!

I started the tests at 6 AM when it was still dark. I must admit, even though it's a cheap standard prime, it pleasantly surprised me.

One of the detail shots took with TTArtisan 35mm F1.8

Theoretically, the TTArtisan 35mm F1.8 isn't suitable for taking photos of small details. Generally, the reason is the average focusing distance of 60cm. Anyway, I took the photo and I believe the 60cm is enough.

General design

However, it is all about the AF drive. It is the most popular STM solution these days. The lens should focus efficiently, quietly, and precisely.

What makes a great impression is its size and weight. The TTartisan 35 mm F1.8 lens also boasts a compact (65 x 60 mm) and light (210 g) design, which will fit well with small bodies. The whole thing is made of metal. Even the front cover is made of metal, which gives it a nice detail.

Interestingly, despite its budget-friendly design, the lens is sealed against dust and splashes. And this is super cool!

Filters have a diameter of 52mm. We also have a USB-C port for any future firmware updates.

The gimbal test also passed without any problems.

TTArtisan 35mm F1.8 price

The lens debuted in October 2023. The price that remains the same in most markets is $149.

Now, it's time for a classic POV test video. Enjoy!
