In this quick blog, you'll read about my thoughts on the BeenTo app. No one sponsored my opinion—it’s entirely my own.
BeenTo app is a tool for travelers and photographers (one doesn't exclude the other).

The main focus of the app is on locations and photos associated with them. Of course, the app has many different and interesting features, which I will write about later.
What does this mean exactly?
1. BeenTo app locations
I believe the functionality of adding locations is based on Google maps. This lets you place the exact pin where you took the photo.
And this means that BeenTo takes on a new meaning.
The exact location means that anyone visiting the place will be able to use it in their own way. Perhaps other photographers will create more creative photos in a place that feels familiar to you. What's more, there will be a powerful dose of inspiration and fresh perspectives.
And that brings us to the second functionality.
2. Tips
Tips is the place where you will find two types of valuable information.
The first one is related to the shooting tips. This is the place where you can describe how you took the photo. Next, what were the conditions or time of day. Lastly, what caused you to get this effect.
This is super useful for all amateurs who are looking for a guide. In addition to that, they don't want to waste time for unnecessary location issues.
Additionally, the second part is related to gear. Of course, this may serve as a guide too. Basically, you have a list of gear to choose from. Some of it is completed automatically but you have to select the camera manually. In addition, the photo is read for metadata which automatically completes information such as aperture, focal length, ISO, exposure bias, etc.
If an amateur would be able to reproduce similar weather and lighting conditions then there is a chance that metadata could be helpful.
3. Gamification
Generally, the entire app is based on a points system - the so-called BeenTo tokens. And now the best part. You can exchange tokens for physical rewards - such as a tripod, lens filters or a backpack. Obviously, it is a good motivator to use the app.
The more points you collect and complete tasks your level increases. With each promotion the color of your badge and the privileges associated with it changes.
This system is quite extensive, so I encourage you to learn more about it when using the app.
4. City spotlights
Finally, you can become a contributor of the group of the city you come from.
It means having access to a group of people who are active in your city. You can discuss locations and hidden gems. What's more, you can easily arrange photo walks together.
Some places are still missing from the map. The reason is simple. The city must be attractive to visitors. Therefore, a location needs 15 contributors and 150 photos. After that, it will be automatically accepted and added to the world map.
Your city is certainly great and deserves a wider audience.
Summary
The BeenTo app is an interesting option if you are looking for an alternative to Instagram because you are annoyed by the splendor and vertical video content.
This is an app that really puts a focus on hidden gems and accurate locations, which will definitely improve the creation of maps with the best spots in cities. Any traveler preparing for a trip to a certain location should make himself a map with spots.
Tired of constantly replying to comments asking for information on what gear the photo was taken with and what camera settings were set? Exactly.
