In this quick 50mm f/1.2 lens comparison, I will focus on 3 static photos I made during my tests.
The idea behind this test was simple.
I will test two lenses: Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN and Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM. Both lenses will use a Sony A7RV camera body with the same settings throughout all photographs.
What's more, a tripod will be very handy because I only want to take static photos with various focus points and depth of field.
I normally wouldn't use a tripod but in this 50mm f/1.2 lens comparison, I needed the same photos.
My comparison is 3 photos of random objects and places. The weather was stable. It was cloudy but the clouds consistently covered the sun.
If you'd like to see a brand new Sigma 50mm f/1.2 in action, that I encourage you to watch this video.
My 50mm f/1.2 lens comparison is only about image differences. I wasn't focused on any additional differences.
Things I noticed after taking the photos.
In my comparison, Sigma seems to be sharper in the center but also on the sides.
Sony hits differently with greens, yellows, and oranges. There might be more colors but it was rather a specific place where I took those photos.
Obviously, there are more differences but not related to the image quality.
I'm talking about things like weight (Sigma is 34 grams lighter), and price (Sigma is almost $500 cheaper).
People will say Sony performs better in video. Sony performs better with eye AF in low-light conditions.
I didn't notice any issues when photographing with eye AF on during low-light situations.
For me, personally, $500 is a lot. Especially when we're considering pretty much identical lenses when it comes to specs in general.
More in my video. Enjoy!
